Are You Looking At Me?

Lest you forget that IT is always about the customer and not you, this quote from an article on the self-obsession of students should remind you that narcissism has no place in marketing.

Narcissists "are more likely to have romantic relationships that are short-lived, at risk for infidelity, lack emotional warmth, and to exhibit game-playing, dishonesty, and over-controlling and violent behaviors."

Interesting article. I think that the typical size of todays families affects this also. Perhaps when families where as large as during the baby boom parents didn't put their kids on a pedestal as much as when you only have one?

Robert - well we both know that you have the blog harem to sustain this!

Derik - an allusion occcurs to me - marketing functions have certainly become too specialised (or small) but maybe, as well, marketers have become too focussed on their own market and product and don't look outside their small product family enough.

It may have no place in marketing (if you're the marketer) but it's something marketers (product developers, customer service reps, etc) must remember when trying to get narcissists to buy their product or speak favorably about their service!

I think Derik has a point fewer children born to people later in life can be part of the problem.
